What is Sinus Lift?

Sinus lift procedure is a common procedure in oral implantology which is filling the jaw cavity. If there is not enough bones in the upper jaw for implantation procedure, it is possible to increase the jaw height with the bone powder.

Direct (lateral) Sinus Lift

Direct sinus lift is applied only for few mm. The technique for filling the jaw cavity is called sinus-lift procedure. This procedure has been successfully executed more than twenty years and now is considered as an accepted way to build both height. In this case, from 2 to 4 grams of sterile bone powder is placed through a jaw window. This window ‘opening’ is realized by means of an ultrasonic vibratory device: Piezosurgery (see the bottom of the page). The technique for filling the jaw cavity is as mentioned earlier, called a sine-lift procedure.
This procedure has been successfully performed more than twenty years and now is considered as an accepted way of building bone. In the above images, the principle of a direct sinus lift is shown diagrammatically. After the gums fold up (left), a hatch is drilled into the jawbone, the space that can be filled with bone and / or a bone substitute, which makes the jaw cavity smaller and eventually an implant of sufficient length can be placed.

Indirect Sinus Lift

Indirect sinus lift

If more bone is present, the bottom of the jaw cavity can also be typed up with the help of a kind of priem. This is done through the bone hole, where later the implant will be inserted. Depending on the situation bone replacement material is also worked through the boreholes, see the two images as an example. This technique can only be used if there are 1 to 2 mm. Both heights are too low. This technique is less traumatic than the direct / lateral method, but is more experimental in nature and can be applied if the bone is few millimeters.

Piezosurgery device for direct sinus lift

This device is much safer, excellent heals tissue, doesn’t give rise to complications, doesn’t cause tissue damage and can be worked extremely accurately.
